THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF OUR FOUNDER
Today is a special day for the Sisters Catholic Teacher of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We want to share with you that we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of our founder, the Third Bishop of the diocese of Aguascalientes, Don José de Jesús López y González.
He was born on October 16, 1872 in a small country town called “El Cotón” near the city of Aguascalientes. He grew up in a peasant family under the care of his mother and sisters. His father died when he was four years old and was therefore always surrounded by women who taught him to be a respectful and educated man.
On November 30, 1897 he was ordained as a priest and years later, when the cristero persecution began, he had to take refuge in San Antonio, Texas, where he was ordained as a bishop on March 30, 1928 in the chapel of The Sister Servants of the Blessed Sacrament. Once safe, he returned to Aguascalientes Mexico to take charge of the diocese.
