Easter Triduum
The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum—from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery. This three-day period is referred to as the Easter Triduum, also known as the Sacred Triduum, or Paschal Triduum.
The word "triduum" comes from the Latin word triduum, which comes from tris (“three”) + dies (“day”).
Basically, the Sacred Triduum is one great festival recounting the last three days of Jesus' life on earth, the events of his Passion and Resurrection, when the Lamb of God laid down his life in atonement for our sins.
The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.
The liturgical services that take place during the Triduum are:
Holy Thursday
- Mass of the Lord's Supper: This Mass celebrates the last meal Jesus shared with his Twelve Apostles before his death. The Ritual of the Washing of Feet reminds us that our baptismal commitment means we are to be servants of one another. After mass the Blessed Sacrament is taken from the tabernacle on the main altar and processed to an altar of repose outside the main body of the Church. Eucharistic Adoration is common after the Holy Thursday Mass and continuing until midnight. It is reminiscent of waiting with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. In this day we also celebrate the Institution of the Priesthood.
Good Friday
- Good Friday of the Lord's Passion: On this day, Christians ritually recall the Passion and crucifixion of Jesus. Mass is not celebrated on this day, however, Holy Communion (reserved in the tabernacle on the altar of repose from the previous evening) is distributed at the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion. The first part is the Liturgy of the Word, the second part is the Veneration of the Cross, the third and last part is Holy Communion. At the conclusion, the priest and people depart in silence, and the altar cloth is removed, leaving the altar bare.
Holy Saturday
Following Good Friday, Holy Saturday is a commemoration of the day that Jesus lay
in his tomb. In the Roman Catholic Church, daytime Masses are never offered. It is a time of waiting.
- Easter Vigil: Held after nightfall of Holy Saturday, or before dawn on Easter Day, in anticipation of the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus.
The Easter Vigil consists of four parts: 1. The Service of Light, 2. The Liturgy of the Word, 3. Christian Initiation and the Renewal of Baptismal Vows and 4. Holy Eucharist.

Triduo Pascual
La cumbre del Año Litúrgico es el Triduo Pascual: desde la tarde del Jueves Santo hasta la tarde del Domingo de Resurrección. Aunque cronológicamente son tres días, litúrgicamente son un solo día que nos despliega la unidad del Misterio Pascual de Cristo. Este período de tres días se denomina Triduo Pascual, también conocido como Triduo Santo.
La palabra «triduo» procede del latín triduum, que viene de tris (“tres”) + dies ("día").
Básicamente, el Triduo Pascual es una gran fiesta que narra los tres últimos días de la vida de Jesús en la tierra, los acontecimientos de su Pasión y Resurrección, cuando el Cordero de Dios entregó su vida en expiación por nuestros pecados.
La celebración única del Triduo marca el final del tiempo de Cuaresma y conduce a la Misa de la Resurrección del Señor en la Vigilia Pascual.
Los servicios litúrgicos que tienen lugar durante el Triduo son:
Jueves Santo
- Misa de la Última Cena: Esta Misa celebra la última cena que Jesús compartió con sus Doce Apóstoles antes de su muerte. El Rito del Lavatorio de los Pies nos recuerda que nuestro compromiso bautismal significa que debemos ser servidores los unos de los otros. Después de la Misa, el Santísimo Sacramento se retira del Tabernáculo del Altar Mayor y se lleva a un altar de reposo fuera de la Iglesia. Es común tener una Adoración Eucarística después de la misa del Jueves Santo y continúa hasta medianoche. Es una conmemoración de la espera con Jesús en el
Huerto de Getsemaní. En este día celebramos también la Institución del Sacerdocio.
Viernes Santo
- Viernes Santo de la Pasión del Señor: En este día, los cristianos recuerdan ritualmente la Pasión y crucifixión de Jesús. La Misa no se celebra este día, sin embargo, la Sagrada Comunión (reservada en el sagrario sobre el altar de reposo desde la víspera) se distribuye en la Celebración de la Pasión del Señor. La primera parte es la Liturgia de la Palabra, la segunda la Veneración de la Cruz, la tercera y última la Sagrada Eucaristía. THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF OUR FOUNDER
Today is a special day for the Sisters Catholic Teacher of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We want to share with you that we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of our founder, the Third Bishop of the diocese of Aguascalientes, Don José de Jesús López y González.
He was born on October 16, 1872 in a small country town called “El Cotón” near the city of Aguascalientes. He grew up in a peasant family under the care of his mother and sisters. His father died when he was four years old and was therefore always surrounded by women who taught him to be a respectful and educated man.
On November 30, 1897 he was ordained as a priest and years later, when the cristero persecution began, he had to take refuge in San Antonio, Texas, where he was ordained as a bishop on March 30, 1928 in the chapel of The Sister Servants of the Blessed Sacrament. Once safe, he returned to Aguascalientes Mexico to take charge of the diocese.
